Last week, I shared the wonderful makeover I gave one of my older TpT resources in my TpT Seller Challenge Week 1: Makeover Madness blog post. While revamping an older product was a lot of work, it was well worth the effort!
It is now Week 2 of the TpT Seller Challenge: Dare to Dream! I love dreaming. Who doesn’t? I remember going to see the musical, Annie, as a child. I had the record and my best friend and I would sing the songs over and over, along to the record. I wanted to star in the musical myself. I dreamed about traveling the world in my cute red dress and professionally-styled, red curls. Well….anyone who knows me can attest that I cannot really carry a melody, let alone be a star in a musical. Sadly, I was lacking the talent I needed to make that dream come true.
In more recent years, I had slowed down on the dreaming aspect of my life. I had become a bit cynical when it came to believing that my dreams could actually come true someday. Then, Teachers Pay Teachers happened to me. I listed my first resource for sale, thinking that I might be able to earn $10-$20 per month to help support the Diet Coke habit I had at the time. “A little spending money would be nice,” I thought. Well, guess what? The cha-ching of sales added up to $112.31 that very first month as a seller. I started visiting the seller forums, where I was inspired by other sellers’ stories of success, and I began to dream again. Something awoke inside me, and it was something wonderful. TpT made me begin believing in myself again.
I do know that dreams must be accompanied by hard, dedicated work in order to be realized. I have definitely done my share of that; TpT is by no means a get-rich-quick scheme. I studied blogs, researched marketing, began collaborating, asked lots of questions, gave and shared, created, wrote and rewrote, took risks with new technology, and lost many hours of sleep. It has been more than worth the sacrifice! I’d like to share some of the amazing things that have happened because I began dreaming again with TpT 18 short months ago:
- Gained professional confidence
- Made wonderful friends who understand my struggles as an educator
- Reached the first official TpT milestone in month #9
- Became the #5 seller in Pennsylvania
- Received amazing, validating feedback from other teachers
- Got a phone call from Adam Freed, TpT CEO (that MADE my year!)
- Met Amy Borrell Berner, the lovely keeper of the TpT community
- Was selected to be a part of the Starting Sellers’ Panel at the 2015 Las Vegas Conference
