As teachers, we are oh so familiar with the classic all about me project activities that come with the beginning of a new school year. I’m here to tell you that I have witnessed some very very painfully boring renditions of this tradition…and I’m sure you have too. I have come to realize that all about me activities are so important and do not need to be boring! They can absolutely be fun and exciting for both students and teachers. With that in mind, come along to explore a few exciting takes on back to school projects!
Exciting All About Me Project Ideas
Me Collage: Provide students with magazines, newspapers, and art supplies to create collages that represent themselves, including their interests, hobbies, family, and aspirations and have them share their finished products!
All About Me Writing Lapbook Project:Â Set students up to have an “all about me fair” with this fun and fresh all about me project lapbook! Just provide each student with a file folder, print the template, and they’ll be on their way to making a fun and interactive display for their classmates to see!
My Timeline:Â This all about me project has students create a visual timeline using words, dates, and pictures to display the most important events in their lives up to this point! I think it’s fun to make one as the teacher- the kids are always shocked by how much longer ours are!
Interview a Classmate: Pair students up to interview each other, then present their partner to the class, sharing interesting facts and insights they’ve learned. This is a great all about me project to really make sure students are paying attention to one another!
Memory Box: Students decorate and fill a shoebox with items that hold special significance to them, such as photos, trinkets, or written memories, then share with the class. Such a fun way to kick off the year with some show and tell!
Back to School Survival Packet:Â This back to school survival packet is full of math and reading activities to kick off the year along with a whole bundle of already prepared student introduction sheets to use as an all about me project!
My Favorite Things Bingo: Create bingo cards with squares filled with different favorite things (colors, animals, foods, etc.). Students mingle, asking classmates about their favorites until they fill their bingo card. Prizes always add a little extra excitement!
Guess Who?: Students bring in baby photos or childhood pictures, and classmates guess who each photo belongs to, based on clues provided by the owner! Throw in your own picture for some extra fun in this all about me project!
Family Tree:Â Students create visual representations of their family trees, including photos or drawings of family members and brief descriptions of their relationships and roles within the family unit. I love this as a way to embrace all different family structures!
Name Glyphs: Using their names as a guide, students create unique glyphs by assigning specific symbols or colors to represent various aspects of themselves, such as favorite foods, pets, or activities. This all about me activity doubles as some adorable beginning of the year classroom decor as well!
Now do you believe that the classic all about me project doesn’t have to be mundane? Not even for teachers! I don’t know about you, but some of these ideas have me wishing I was still in the classroom so I could watch my students have some fun with these new takes on back to school activities! I hope a few of these all about me activities stuck with you, and I’m wishing you all of the best in your classroom!!
