Morning Classroom Routine

Mornings in the classroom can be hectic, which is why establishing an effective morning classroom routine that works for you and your students is a great way to start the day off on the right note. By implementing daily practices and procedures, mornings can become more enjoyable and set the tone in your classroom for a day full of learning and cooperation!

Creating a Smooth Morning Classroom Routine

1. Start the day right. Make sure to get your classroom ready for the day before students enter, including organizing their desks and setting out materials they will need first thing. 2. Have a plan. Designate specific tasks for each morning and write out directions or a schedule on the board for students to see as soon as they enter the classroom! This way, students are on board with the morning classroom routine too!

3. Greet each student. It’s always a great start to the day when we have the chance to greet our students and welcome them to the classroom for the day. This sets the tone for a welcoming and safe classroom environment where optimal learning can occur!

4. Stick to a schedule. Establish an order for the morning classroom routine and stick to it so students know what to expect. This helps them learn when activities will be taking place and how much time they have to complete tasks.

5. Make it fun. Incorporate activities into the morning routine that are engaging and enjoyable for students, such as music or games, or activities like those found in these projectable AND printable Morning Work packets!

11. Give feedback. Provide positive and constructive feedback to students during the morning classroom routine, such as praising their work or suggesting ways they can improve.

12. Use visuals. Post visual reminders of your expectations and routine around the classroom so students are reminded of what is expected from them. Additionally, create charts and checklists that outline the daily routine!

13. Take breaks. Allow for flexibility within the morning routine and give students time to relax, take a break, or chat with their friends if needed. This helps keep them motivated and engaged in activities.

14. Offer incentives. Provide incentives such as celebrations or rewards for completing tasks on time or helping classmates during the morning routine.
