Christmas Tree Build: A Christmas STEM activity is a great way to plan some fun problem-solving and group work into that last hectic week before Christmas! We will be doing this challenge later this week in my fifth grade classroom, but I thought I’d share the set-up and the Christmas Tree Challenge Worksheet as a free download for you to use in your own classrooms.
Christmas STEM Activity – The Christmas Tree Challenge
In this STEM challenge, students are given gumdrops and toothpicks and challenged to create the tallest Christmas tree possible.
Here’s how the #ChristmasTreeChallenge will go down: Each group of 3-4 students will be given:
- 1 bag of gumdrops (you can use DOTS candy, too)
- 50 toothpicks
- Christmas Tree Challenge Worksheets
- ruler
The challenge is simple. Groups are to work together using only the provided materials to create the tallest Christmas tree possible. After they have completed their structure, they are to use the worksheet to record their data and reflections.Â
Join the Fun!
Simply get your materials ready and download the FREE worksheet HERE. If you have a blog, please feel free to add a link to your #ChristmasTreeChallenge post below. If you don’t have a blog, you can email your photos to me (no faces, please), and I’ll gladly add them to this post! Also, feel free to share all your photos of the Christmas STEM activity challenge via social media with the hashtag #ChristmasTreeChallenge. Make sure you are following me on Instagram and Twitter to see my additional photos. 😀
Happy Christmas Tree Building!
