Meet the Teacher Slideshow

At the start of every school year, teachers have the opportunity to introduce ourselves through a meet the teacher slideshow, creating a welcoming environment for new students. That first impression can go a long way with ensuring parents are confident and comfortable with their child’s classroom. A great way to deliver information about yourself, classroom values, and build student and parent confidence and excitement is through a meet the teacher slideshow!

When putting together your meet the teacher slide show, there are some important elements to keep in mind. Getting your presentation right will go a long way in setting the tone for a great school year.

What to Include in Your Meet the Teacher Slideshow

Personal Introduction. I liked to start off my meet the teacher slide show with an introduction of myself. I found it helpful to include a few photos, my name, grade level, and even any nicknames. Either included in the same slide or section as your personal introduction or separately, it is also great to include hobbies you enjoy, names and pictures of any pets, your favorite school subject, some books or movies you enjoy, and any other personal details to remind students you are human, too.

Memories from your time in school. I find that students really enjoy hearing about our personal experience being students like them. Adding a slide or two to share some stories or pictures from when you were around the age of your students can really help them relate to you and feel more comfortable. Relating to your students early on may also set the tone for mutual respect and understanding throughout the year. This goes a long way!

Why I teach/teaching philosophy. In addition to getting to know you as a person, it is equally important for students and their families to understand who you are as an educator. Including a slide or two with what inspires you to teach, your experience teaching, and what you believe as a teacher is a wonderful way to show students and families your identity as an educator. Letting students know your “why” in your meet the teacher slideshow is a great idea! With this, you can also let students know what to expect as they come back to school.

Contact information. As a teacher, it is important to establish communication with families so that the education of their child can be a team effort. A great time and place to share your contact information is in your meet the teacher slideshow. This slide could include email and phone information as well as guidelines or preferences on when or when not to try and reach you.

Meet the Teacher Slideshow

Thank you/questions. At the end of your meet the teacher slideshow, I think it’s a great idea to include a slide thanking students and their families for coming to Meet the Teacher Night and also for trusting you with their child’s education and well being. Thank parents in advance for their cooperation and communication.

Meet the Teacher Slideshow

A meet the teacher slideshow is an effective and meaningful way to introduce yourself as a teacher, build student and parent confidence, and provide key information about your classroom. By including personal introduction slides, memories from your time in school, teaching philosophy/why you teach slides, contact information, goals for the upcoming year, expectations for the classroom, and thank you/questions slides, your meet the teacher slideshow will be sure to set a positive tone for the school year.
